Sandy Murman has worked to make our community safe, secure and successful for children of all ages! 

Ö        “Jimmy Ryce Act” protects our children from sexually violent predators.

Ö        “Privatization of Foster Care” cracks down on child abusers by providing better oversight and investigations of abusers.

Ö        “Abandoned Babies” provides a safe haven for newborns to be left at a hospital, fire station or police station with the intent that the parent is    consenting to termination of parental rights.

Ö        “Child Protection Act” strengthens controls on how the Department of Children and Families investigates abuse reports  in an attempt to prevent further tragedies in the child protection system.

Ö        “Parental Notification of Abortion” requires the person performing  the termination of a pregnancy of a minor to notify the parent or legal    guardian of the minor’s intentions.

Ö        “Children’s Substance Abuse Services” encourages the development of effective prevention and early intervention strategies through a partnership grant targeting school age populations.

Ö        “Mental Health Services for Children” requires that a mental health     professional verify appropriate treatments for a child’s emotional          disturbances and that the progress be monitored by the court and a    guardian ad litem.

Ö        “Improving Education in the Classroom” giving our teachers the tools to be great.   Legislation encourages parents and teachers to become more    involved enabling our children to succeed and reach their full potential.

Ö        “Adoption of Foster Children” encourages adoption by allowing the adopted to maintain communication with siblings after termination of   parental rights.  Provides comfort and a sense of family, old and new, to the adopted.

Ö        “Falsification of Records” provides penalties to workers of state agencies for knowingly falsifying records of an individual in the care and custody of a state agency.   This act is intended to prevent tragedies similar to those of Rilya Wilson, the child gone missing while under state supervision.
