Sandy and the Glazer Children’s Museum Story

Sandy and the Glazer Children’s Museum Story

Growing up in Indianapolis, home of the world’s largest children’s museum, Sandy was inspired to bring the joy of a children’s museum to the Tampa area. A feasibility study was completed in the 1990’s with positive results that a museum would be successful. The project stayed mostly dormant until Sandy completed her legislative work, but progressed rapidly upon her return in 2004 as chair of the capital campaign and most recently of the board of directors in 2008.

The group raised $15.5 million for the capital campaign, $13 million of which was private funding and just a minimal $3 million coming from the local Community Investment Tax (CIT). The museum is set to open later this year along Ashley Drive on land donated by the City of Tampa. (www.glazermuseum.org)
